29% of householders complain of mould
A recent survey from the Energy Saving Trust (EST) has revealed that 44% of UK householders are living in a draughty home. Approximately 38% said they had a condensation problem and 29% said they were living with mould. The Trust said that more could be done to prevent draughts, condensation and mould problems.
Mould is classed as a category one risk to health under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System 2000, placing it in the same category as asbestos. The Environmental Protection Act (1990) classifies mould as a statutory nuisance that must be treated, so if you think your property is exhibiting signs of mould and damp it is worth calling in specialists for a professional damp diagnosis.
